Patriotism

Posted by PicasaWe've had a patriotic month here in West Africa.  The weekend before July 4, G compound hosted our fourth annual "Interdependence Day."  Its a chance for folks to share a song, dance, or reading from their country's heritage.  I (M) read an excerpt from Marbury vs Madison.
Our compound VHS collection is very strong from the 90s, so while we can't watch the current Olympics, the kids and I have been watching the 1992 and 1998 Winter Olympics.  A good chance to satiate that craving for the Olympic anthem and chanting for the red white and blue.  We were also very proud to find out that our hosts are not among the 80 countries who have never managed to win an Olympic medal, having taken a bronze in 1972.

Here are some photos from our most recent 4 day seminar.  This was actually the 7th step of the 'Timothy Training' and those who had been through the various steps were rewarded with a recently published Hausa Bible commentary.  After the Bible, there are relatively few rich theological resources readily available in Hausa, so we were glad to be able to distribute these. We recently inducted a new PAACS (Pan African Association of Christian Surgeons) resident into our program.  While I am not one of the faculty for this program, I do appreciate these do...
