Its great to be back safe with the fam. But Ir approached me this week about a problem she and E had been having. Seems I had taught them the game of “chest” (sic), a little too perfunctorily. As she described it, E and she had gotten into a pattern that made the game not very interesting to play together. “Whoever plays white always wins.” “Why is that?” “You see, because white gets to go first. And the piece that makes an L [editor: the knight] can jump over pieces, right?” “Right.” “Well, white just makes a Bi-i-g L with that first piece in the first move and kills the enemy king. So whichever of us is playing white always wins.”
I think we have to go over the moves again.
